Sundries

The first attempt I made to write my own comic came immediately after leaving art school. I spent that year sleeping on my friends couch, smoking pot and spinning my wheels through a ponderous 250 page script I called Space Bear 54. I grew increasingly frustrated at my inability to make any real headway on the project. The reasons would eventually became clear to me as vocabulary like “work flow”, “time management” and “sobriety” entered my lexicon tool box.

During the time I was writing these books I was working at an art program that supported adults with disabilities. I would ride my bike to various studios across Portland and do art with clients that were interested. During my down time I would work on Sundries.

Each panel was painted with watercolor on a 5”x5”piece of bristol board that I kept in a tackle box in my back pack. Issue One was published at the Independent Publishers Resource Center in Portland, Oregon. The other two issues I was unsatisfied with and never published them. Over time though I have some to appreciate their value and am pleased to share them with you here. Enjoy!
